This is the first short film I ever created and wanted to prove something to myself: could I produce a film project from start to finish? Could I be a film maker? This short film is a post-humanist portrait of a fictional artist that is told not through her own voice, but through interviews with the people who knew her. At its core, the film explores themes of family, inspiration, and the lifelong balancing act between personal fulfillment and professional ambition which were particularly present in my mind during the fall of 2023.
I consider this piece a sister film to The Performance, sharing its intimate tone and love for process. The initial spark came from a video about the people who throw confetti in Times Square on New Year’s Eve—a quiet, almost invisible ritual that stuck with me. From that inspiration, a story emerged that asked: how do we honor the quiet labor of a life, especially one lived in art?
This project came with its own unique challenges: capturing slow-motion sequences on a circular dolly, and shaping a story around a protagonist whose face is never shown. But what makes me most proud is the heart this film carries—and the group of generous, creative collaborators who gave their time and spirit to bring it to life.
